Swimming New Zealand Certificate in Swim Teaching
(Early Childhood Specialist)

4-5 October 2007

This 2 Day course is supported by substantial resources and a comprehensive Teacher’s Manual.

Content

  • On completion of this qualification teachers will be able to:

  • Plan and conduct with competence a series of progressive, developmentally appropriate in water programmes for Early Childhood

  • Demonstrate a child centred holistic approach to teaching and learning with Early Childhood in water

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of movement in water relating to young people

  • Demonstrate a professional approach to teaching Early Childhood in water

  • Demonstrate an applied understanding of learning models, Active Movement philosophy and brain development research

  • Develop structured administration procedures for schemes of work, lesson plans, register of attendance, medical conditions and emergency contact lists, health and safety documentation including RAMS, EAP and NOP

  • Apply the principles, strands and goals of Te Whâriki where appropriate

Certification

Participate in the 2 day course (A certificate of attendance will be issued). A certificate of qualification will be issued on completion of all requirements: complete the assignment with a focus in one of two, or both specialist areas (Infants and Toddlers, and/or Young Children); and complete a practical assessment via visit or video submission.

 

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics

4-5 October 2007

This 2 day course provides the candidate with the competence required to deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic activity programs for children between the age of six months to four years of age.

Content

The course consists of approximately 15 contact hours (theory and practical), plus practical observation, supervised teaching hours and assessment. Topics include:

  1. Philosophy of infant and preschool aquatics

  2. Health and safety considerations

  3. Child development

  4. Principles of teacher, parent and child relationships

  5. Methods of water familiarisation

  6. Infant aquatics programming

Certification

On successful completion of all course requirements candidates will receive the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics Certificate.

 

US Swim School Association Infant Toddler Course

5 October 2007

This 1 day course provides the candidate with a condensed version of the US Swim School Association Infant Toddler Course.

Content

  • 8am-12pm Classroom Session: Swim history, childhood illnesses and concerns and child development as related to baby swim. This course reviews the progression of skills and building blocks and allows time for sharing ideas in group work

  • 1pm- 5pm Water Session: Covering various ways to work with baby swim students - You are welcome to join Bob & Kathy in the water or to watch from the deck. There is time for sharing methods although the structure does keep us on task to cover a variety of methods and approaches to baby swimming

Certification

On successful completion of all course requirements candidates will receive the US Swim School Association Infant Toddler Certificate.

 

Linnéa Swim School Infant Swimming Teacher Course

5 October 2007

This is a short, intense, variant of the Linnéa Swim School Infant Swimming Teacher Course.

This course is approved by the Swedish Babyswim Association and condensed version of the 3 day course normally targeted at inexperienced teachers.

The WABC adjusted course is one day and assumes that you have at least 40 hrs of teaching experience. Evidence of your teaching experience (Previous training & experience and referees) should be documented and sent prior 5 October 2007 to Dr Ludmilla Rosengren: ludmilla.rosengren@babysim.com.

Content

This course is targeted at teachers with experience of teaching babies who want to have a deeper knowledge and another qualification and will focus on teaching children between 3 months and 2 years of age. Every participant receives the Baby Swim Book and DVD.

On successful completion of all course requirements candidates will receive a Linnéa Swim School Infant Swimming Teacher Certificate. NB: A minimum 40 hours of praxis must be documented prior to course participation should the candidate wish to gain certification.
