Kia ora
New Zealand's capital city will
host the World Aquatic Babies Congress
2007 from 6
- 8
October 2007. This International Congress provides
a learning experience for all professionals and volunteers
working in the area of development and well being of small children!
The three day programme is full to
the brim with presentations encompassing years of
research, applied developmental programs, reflexes and
parent child relationships, to summarise a handful.
WABC 2007 will explore the theme
He Oranga to te Wai – Water is Life. How water can be
used as an engaging medium for child development,
building balance and orientation, sensory integration
and of course communication.
Over 200 registrations have been
received thus far and capacity at the venue Te Papa is
limited. Strong interest in the conference has been
shown from all continents as the programme speaks for
itself.
A total of 32 presentations will
be delivered over three days. The programme has been
developed to ensure maximum contact time is available
along with specific and functional networking
opportunities for delegates, presenters and sponsors.
Baby Signs
A Keynote presentation
will be made by Dr. Linda Acredolo, Professor Emeritus
of Psychology at the University of California at Davis
and an internationally recognized scholar in the field
of child development with a special focus on the effects
of encouraging hearing babies to use signs to
communicate before they can speak.
Dr. Acredolo received her
Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and, over the
course of her 30-year academic career, has published
more than 60 scholarly articles, has presented her
findings in countless formal and informal settings, and
has been named a Fellow of both the American
Psychological Association and the American Psychological
Society. She is also a member of the Advisory Board for
Parents Magazine.
In addition to publishing
the results of her work in scholarly journals, in 1996
she co-authored with Dr. Susan Goodwyn, a best-selling
book for parents entitled BABY SIGNS: How to Talk With
Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk, now available in 14
other languages around the world.
